Think Eternity Not Temporary

EternityBlog1-1

What is the secret to being thankful and content in whatever relationship status we are in? It is choosing to “Think Eternity and Not Temporary.” What do I mean by this? I mean choosing to have the proper spiritual perspective about this life. As a Christian, correct perspective is essential to continuance and perseverance through this life. The truth is, this earth is temporary and eternity is forever. This reality awaits all of us. Our life was given to us, not for our own selfish and sinful desires to be carried out, but for God’s divine will to be manifested. Every day, if we choose to operate from this space, it will change the way we view singleness, dating, marriage, our time here on earth, and ultimately every relationship we have.

In Singleness->Think Eternity, Not Temporary

If you are a Christian who is in a season of singleness, it’s important to realize your incomprehensible worth and value to the kingdom of God and to this world. The bible says that every member has its own function, gifts and talents to be used for God’s kingdom (Romans 12:4-5). God’s purpose is for his divine plan to be manifested through all his children, even the single ones. YOU MATTER. Singles have a chance to carry out the work of the Lord (1 Cor 7:32). Singles have a chance to show the world that it is possible to live a pure, holy, and devoted life to the Lord (1 Peter 1:16). Singles have a chance to love others, serve others, and maximum their gifts in Christ in order to edify others (Col 3:23). Singles have a chance to be instrumental in spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Mark 16:15-16). I want to encourage singles: DO NOT waste your single season or your life by focusing on where you are not, or who you do not have in your life. Tomorrow is not promised, and no one knows when their last day on this earth will be (Proverbs 27:1).

Live with a heart posture that constantly is reaching for eternity with Christ and not for the temporary pleasures or distractions of this life. Choose to praise God and thank Him for the relationship you have with Him and the opportunities he has blessed you with to serve Him. Focus on where God has you and what he has purposed for you to complete. Life in Christ does not start when you marry an earthly individual, nor does it start when you have children. True life in Christ starts the moment you become saved through obedience of the gospel. There is so much work to be done for the kingdom of God, even for a single person. There is so much beauty in life, even for a single person.  Even if you don’t have an earthly husband or wife, God has equipped you with IMMENSE PURPOSE and with “everything you need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3). Singles please be encouraged and seek to always think eternity, not temporary.

In Dating ->Think Eternity, Not Temporary

Although the word “dating” is not mentioned directly in the bible, there are many principles, tools, and commands on how we should relate, interact, and love one another. I want to encourage those who are dating or who hope to date, to choose to view your dating/courtship with an eternal-godly mentality and not a temporary one. The world likes to push false ideals, principles, and misconceptions. Dating is not about fulfilling lust, selfish desires, or finding the “perfect person” who will make us feel blissful and happy all the time. That’s a satanic lie that has blinded and influenced many of us to date in a way that is dishonoring to ourselves, others, and to the Lord. For the Christian, EVEN the dating realm should be an area in which we honor and glorify God. How we date and who we date matters when we are thinking with an eternal-spiritual mindset. We must understand that every relationship we have is either a satanic distraction or divine connection. Every relationship has the ability to influence our current spiritual state and ultimately our eternal state after this earthly life.

May we date and court in a way that looks at the importance of our eternal soul and the souls of others. That means for a Christian who is operating from a spiritual mindset, they will not just loosely date, but they will date with purpose, wisdom, discretion, purity, and godliness. They will “guard their heart with all diligence for out of it comes the issues of life” (Proverbs 4:23). They will “be an example for believers in the speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). They will not “carry themselves in passionate lust” (1 Thess 4:5). They will understand the seriousness and importance of choosing a potential spouse AND being a potential spouse who has Heaven’s agenda and God’s will at the center of their heart. They will understand that courtship, will have fun moments and exciting times, but that beyond just having fun, the most important thing is upholding the commands of God. So, to the dating, remember, always seek to think eternity, not temporary.

In Marriage ->Think Eternity, Not Temporary

“What God has joined together, let no man separate” (Mark 10:9). Marriage is a God ordained and God made institution. It should be upheld, honored, and treated with the utmost care. Godly marriages are a blessing from the Lord. I write this for those who are married and even those who are not. Satan may try and use this world to distort and dishonor marriage, but “marriage is still honorable above all” (Heb 13:4). Marriage is designed to be a reflection of Christ love for his beloved church and the church’s love and devotion to Christ (Eph 5:25). Every husband and wife who chooses to embark upon the journey of marriage is given the blessed opportunity to glorify God through their union. The incomprehensible and quintessential core of a godly marriage is founded in the blessing, honor, and responsibility of personifying AGAPE (unconditional) LOVE (1 Cor 13:4-8). Marriage is more than just a “cool” thing to do.

Marriage is God-breathed and therefore should be viewed with the utmost seriousness and carried out with unwavering faithfulness (Gen 2:23-24).  Having the eternal perspective of marriage is understanding that how you love and treat your spouse in every season of life, matters. Having the eternal perspective of marriage is understanding that a primary goal should be to help and encourage your spouse to live a life pleasing to the Lord, while making sure you too are honoring the Lord (Eph 5:21-33). Having the eternal perspective of marriage is understanding that your earthly (temporary) actions within your marriage will influence your relational standing with the Lord for all of eternity. Last but not least, having the eternal perspective of marriage is realizing that the ONLY marriage that will ultimately last beyond this earth is the one between Christ and His beloved bride; the church (Rev 19:7). Marriage matters to God and how people live and love within their earthly marriages matters for the destination of their eternal soul. So, remember, in marriage, always seek to think eternity and not temporary.

In conclusion, no matter what season of life you may be in, whether single, dating, or married, “THINK ETERNITY, NOT TEMPORARY.”

With love,
