DETAILS!

The time of year is here where many weddings are taking place. The bride is consumed with creating an unforgettable experience for all her family and friends. In order to insure that every detail is taken care of she hires a wedding planner. Together they try to make sure the venue is right. They find a highly skilled cake decorator who can weave an eye catching eatable masterpiece. And the ULTIMATE, the selection of the perfect white dress!! Hours are spent selecting the most perfect love songs to serenade each moment of this unforgettable day. The smell of flowers, the choosing of rings, and the selection of the perfect colors. DETAILS. DETAILS. Oops! How could we forget the beautifully designed wedding invitation. Ladies you know we must create one that NO ONE has had before. DETAILS. DETAILS. BUT then there’s cost..$$$$$$$$$$$ A BIG DETAIL. (It could be a house or at least a down payment on one but, oh well it’s the BIG day. Once in a lifetime!) We go over and over everything making sure NO detail is missed… or so we think. But what about the detail of making sure we have developed the character and heart of a Godly woman who is about to take on the role of a wife?

ARE YOU READY?

Are you ready to be the wife that God has instructed? Are you kind? Are you long suffering? Are you willing to put someone else’s needs before your own? Are you patient? Are you loving? Are you ready to persevere through the storms of marriage? Do you have an “until death do us part” mentality? Are you ready to spend time preparing and cooking meals for your family? Are you ready to clean and organize a home? What about when all the butterflies fizzle out in your belly towards your husband? Are you still willing and ready to love your husband unconditionally? Are you ready to submit to your husband as unto the Lord? Are you ready?

BEING A WIFE…

Society puts more emphasis and focus on the wedding day rather than the emphasis being on building sustaining character qualities within the two individuals who are getting married. But, are we going to let society dictate the rules of an establishment that it did not create? Or, are we going to have standards that are based on what God has said in His Word in regards to marriage and being a wife?

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” -Ephesians 5:21-25

Being a wife according to God’s word is deeper than two people taking cute selfies of their wedding and honeymoon. Being a wife is a blessing but it is also a spiritual journey that WILL require the strength and love of the Lord. It will demand us to daily apply the fruit of the Spirit.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” -Galatians 5:22-23

A nice wedding day means absolutely nothing if the marriage is a complete ungodly mess. We as women need to make sure we’re not putting more emphasis on the events of a wedding day, than we are on preparing our heart and character to be that of a wife who pleases God for a lifetime.

  1. You bring out some good points. Marriage is a growth process, where the husband and wife must be willing to grow together. It won’t work if they’re on different sheets of music. Amos 3:3-“Can two walk together, unless they be agreed?”

    1. Amen! Amos 3:3 is one of my favorite scriptures. You are so right. Two individuals must be one the same page!

  2. I really love what your doing! By the way I’m a PVAMU alumni!
Your correct! I’m a husband I tell you a wife’s roll is not something you just jump in b/c it seems cute. It not cute it a duty a duty to work hard on a daily basis. As well as the husband because she will only go as far as he will as a family. If a wife is lacking look at the husband if the husband is lacking look at the wife but God holds the male accountable for the house hold. It’s very important that a woman finds a man she has the up most respected for and can clearly see his mind or we say his vision.

    1. Amen! Totally agree with what you said Mr. Hooks! A husband and wife are one, and they are a reflection of one another. Thanks for your encouraging words! So great to meet another fellow panther!
