I remember sitting in my chair in the movie theater as tears consistently rolled down my face, and I couldn’t help but in that very moment to start praying to God and thanking Him for allowing me to see this movie. To say this movie is a “good movie” is an understatement. It’s far more than JUST another good movie. This movie is a BLESSING to every soul that chooses to watch it. There is so much garbage out there being played on televisions and movie screens and it’s so encouraging and refreshing to know that people are still choosing to make things that seek to spiritually uplift and nurture your soul. I plead to you, if you have not seen this movie please go see it! I promise you it will not disappoint. I had no idea before watching this movie that after seeing it I would be writing this blog, but I couldn’t be more excited to write it!  I’m not going to list all the details of the movie because I do not want to spoil it for those who have yet to see it. However, I will share 3 things I learned about prayer from watching the movie War Room and I pray that it blesses you.

1. Prayer is POWERFUL

Prayer is from God and anything from God and of God is beyond powerful. Prayer is far more than just some minuscule ritual. Prayer is a divine gift that reaches into the Heavenly realms, and has the ability to awaken the ears of the almighty GOD. Prayer is POWER on display. It is the mastery weapon for all of God’s children. Prayer is when the spiritual powers and forces of  God go to war with the demonic rulers and spirits of this world. Prayer will fight for you when it seems as if you have no fight in you left. Prayer will strengthen you when it seems as if all of your strength has diminished. Prayer is POWERFUL. It’s so easy for us to become blinded by the troubles and difficulties of this life. As a result, we so quickly forget the blessing that every faithful child of God has, which is access to the throne of grace of God. Do you understand how amazing that is? If you have been obedient to God in the gospel of Christ and have become a baptized and faithful believer of Christ Jesus (Acts 2:38, 1 Cor 15:1-4, Rom 1:1-6), you have access to the GOD OF THIS UNIVERSE, THE GREAT I AM, THE ALPHA AND OMEGA! WOW! How mind blowing is that? The same God who parted the Red Sea, created mankind so intricately, and who spoke life into existence will incline His ear unto every one of His faithful children. It’s because of our Christ Jesus’ beautiful sacrifice on the cross that we have the ability to communicate with the Heavenly Father.

“For there is one God and mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” -1 Timothy 2:5

So why do we fret? If we have the ability to communicate  with the Creator of the universe, what is there to fear? Who or what is more powerful than God? Our ability to access the throne of God through prayer has the power to overpower any demon that tries to overthrow us. I just loved how the movie War Room continually showed and revealed the POWER of prayer!

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”-James 5:16

2. Prayer is PERSONAL

Prayer is PERSONAL. I just love how the movie War Room revealed this beautiful fact about prayer. When I say personal, I want to explain more thoroughly what I mean. Prayer is a personal experience with God. Not only is it that, but our prayers towards God should be specific and personalized. Why? Because God is a God of detail and a God of specifics. The bible says that for a faithful baptized believer of God, “If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us”(1 John 5:14). So many times we are afraid to speak to God about the details of our life and we make our prayers generic. However, God wants prayer to be a personal experience with Him. He wants your heart to be laid bare before Him. He loves you with a personalized love, and as a result he wants you to communicate with Him in a personalized way. God cares about what you’re going through and what you’re dealing with. God is ready to respond, to bless, and to help us, but first we have to be willing to be honest and specific with our petitions of prayer toward God. In the movie, the main character learned to write out specific prayers for the people in her life, the situations in her life, and the matters of her own personal spiritual walk. She asked God specifically for what she wanted. She made her prayers personal! We shouldn’t be afraid to do the same. Prayer was not designed to make us feel distant from God, but it should bring us closer to our Heavenly Father. Like any relationship in life, the more intimate, honest, raw, real, and transparent you become with a person, the more the relationship develops and becomes personal. So always remember that prayer is PERSONAL!

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”-Hebrews 4:16

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on him in truth.”-Psalm 145:18

3. Prayer is PURPOSEFUL

Prayer serves a purpose and this truth is seen consistently throughout the movie War Room. Prayer is more than some mundane act that has no purpose. Prayer has the ability to create and produce a far more greater work within us and around us than we could have imagined. It’s something about consistent communication with God and meditation on God that transforms our souls and hearts. When God’s children pray and develop a heart for and after Him, it allows us to walk in the divine purpose He has for us. It allows us to live life the way in which He intended for us to live, which is FOR HIM! When we ask God in prayer to help us follow His word and help us to live for Him, we are walking in the light of His intended and divine purpose for our lives. That purpose is to fear Him and keep His commandments. The prayers of the righteous avails much, and a righteous man’s prayers will never come back void (James 5:16). It always produces, transforms, and brings about the purpose of God if after we pray, we submit to the things that God has said in His Word. Remember prayer is divinely PURPOSEFUL!

“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit that will last and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”-John 15:16

“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”-Luke 22:42

  1. Ashley, I am encouraged by your wisdom and commitment to the Lord. I hope to see this movie soon. I honestly agree with you blog regarding prayer. While reflecting, I truly believe that prayer is a Christian’s main mode of communication with our heavenly father. It strengthens ties between ourselves and God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. As Christians we need to be authentic with our requests because God knows our hearts and we can’t hide anything from Him. I encourage all to pray without ceasing. God is available to us at all times of the day.
I am learning how to be an improved prayer emphasizing more detailed requests unto the Lord.
