28 Things I Realized by age 28

28 cover

“I said, let days speak and many years teach wisdom.” -Job 32:7

1.

Talking to God (in prayer) and allowing God to talk to me (by reading His word), changes the posture of my spirit and sets the right tone for my day.

(Philippians 4:6-8, Pslam 119:25-48)

2.

When my words consistently speak God, but my life consistently lives for Satan, I am being a hypocrite. As a Christian, both my words and my life must align with Christ.

(1 John 4:20, James 1:26)

3.

A lack of empathy and compassion is a MAJOR red flag and is not a working of the fruit of the Spirit.

(Galatians 5:22-23, Colossians 3:12)

4.

Love is grounded and rooted in authenticity and genuineness. To be fake and in-genuine in any way, is not love.

(1 Corinthians 13:4-8, Romans 12:9-13)

5.

I have to desire God’s will above my feelings. A mature faith has the ability to discipline the emotion and one’s own will for the ultimate will of the Heavenly Father.

(Hebrews 11:1,6, Proverbs 3:5-6)

6.

Time does not heal all my wounds. God heals all my wounds.

(Isaiah 53:4-6, Psalm 147:3)

7.

I can never be in full control of all the wounds that happen to me, but I can choose to be in control of seeking the healing needed for my wounds.

(Jeremiah 17:14, Psalm 103:3)

8.

As a Christian, I must understand that love should be the fountain from which everything in my life flows, even my emotions.

(Ephesians 3:17, Colossians 2:70

9.

God’s providential timing is perfect. He is never behind, too late, or too far ahead in my life. He is always right on time.

(2 Peter 3:8-9, Proverbs 16:9)

10.

Anything of God and from God will bring about peace in my life, not confusion

(1 Corinthians 14:33, 2 Thessalonians 3:16)

11.

I must not block my blessings from God by choosing to hold onto something or someone that is spiritually stunting my growth or spiritually being a stumbling block.

(Galatians 5:16-17, Ephesians 4:22)

12.

As a Christian, God is for me, but the Devil is also out to destroy me. The Christian life is a battlefield, not a playground. I must be wise, not naive

(1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:11)

13.

Just because someone wants to be with me or marry me DOES NOT mean I should say yes. I cannot be everybody’s wife and every pursuit is not God-sent.

(1 John 4:1, Proverbs 3:15)

14.

My past, my mistakes, and my sins do not define me. Christ defines me. In Christ I am a new creature

(2 Corinthians 5:17, Romans 6:4)

15.

Death and grief are no respecter of persons.

(Ecclesiastes 3:4, Hebrews 9:27)

16.

I cannot be racist and truly love God.

(Galatians 3:28, Acts 10:34-35)

17.

Me not having an earthly husband does not make my life any less significant. Me getting a husband will not make me more significant. I am significant and dearly loved because of who I am in Christ, not because of my relationship status.

(Romans 8:35-39, Galatians 2:20)

18.

People’s expectations for my life are not the words I follow for my life. God’s word is. What God desires and wants for me has the SUPREME voice over all the other chatter in my life.

(Galatians 1:10, Acts 5:29)

19.

It is necessary to ask myself every time someone enters my life, “Is this a divine connection, or a satanic distraction?”

(1 Corinthians 15:33, Proverbs 13:20)

20.

America is not untouchable and this world and it’s man-made gods are NOT greater than the TRUE LIVING GOD. This pandemic and all of 2020 is proof of that.

(Psalm 86:10, Psalm 113:4-6)

21.

A man’s CONSISTENT character speaks the loudest about the truth of his heart. If a man is consistently ungodly, that is who he is. If a man is consistently godly, that is who he is.

(Proverbs 10:9, Proverbs 11:3)

22.

Godly connection is the strongest connection there is. For real godly connection is divine.

(Proverbs 17:17, Proverbs 12:26)

23.

Every day I get to choose to be disciplined or I get to choose to be distracted. It’s up to me.

(Hebrews 12:11, Proverbs 12:1)

24.

It takes consistent courage to heal. This God-given courage helps me realize I am not healing for others approval, but for God’s glory. During my healing process, I must be willing to step into somethings that are extremely uncomfortable and scary, but are necessary for God’s glory to be demonstrated through my healing journey.

(Psalm 27:1, Psalm 34:18)

25.

I must never be more patriotic for this earthly country, than I am for my true heavenly home. As a Christian, my ultimate citizenship is in heaven.

(Philippians 3:20, Romans 12:1-2)

26.

The power to break dysfunctional family cycles lies within God and His power to work through me and my willingness to work for Him. Because of God, I can boldly proclaim, “The cycle stops with me.”

(Ephesians 2:10, Ephesians 3:20)

27.

I am an abuse survivor, and I am no longer ashamed of speaking that part of my story. I am no longer a victim of what has happened to me. But through Christ I am victorious!

(Romans 8:1, Romans 8:35-39)

28.

The safest place for me to always be, is in the “will of God.” For it is in God’s will that love, peace, direction, and protection never cease. His will is perfect. His will is perfect for me. Doing God’s will isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it. In “His will” is where I want to stay for the rest of my days.

(Matthew 6:10, Hebrews 10:36)
