Singles and Social Distancing

DEAR SINGLES, I want to encourage you. This is a very vulnerable time for so many, including singles. This season of social distancing, isolating, and lack of human interaction can birth feelings of loneliness. It can also ignite deep desires and yearnings for closeness. As well as tempt you to dwell on dark thoughts of sadness and depression. Many people have families to dwell with at home. Many people have a spouse, have children, have siblings etc. You may not have that in this season right now. God knows this, just like Satan knows this. God wants you to use this time for you to draw closer to Him just like Satan wants to tempt you to draw closer to him. 

DRAW CLOSE TO GOD

I implore you to choose this time to draw closer to God and dwell on His truth of you. “He will never leave or forsake you..”-Hebrews 13:5 That means He will never leave or forsake you even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic. Choose Him every moment of everyday. Keep your mind and heart ON HIM and HIS LOVE. Do not believe the lie of the enemy that no one cares about you or that no one loves you. God loves YOU. Because of this truth, you have an amazing love that goes beyond comprehension and that is with you every moment of every day. Dwell on that when thoughts of loneliness arise. 

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, no anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”-Romans 8:35,38-39

DO NOT ENTERAIN COUNTERFEITS

Do not entertain counterfeits. Again, PLEASE do not entertain counterfeits. I know you may be vulnerable right now and wanting closeness, but entertaining people that you know are not God’s best is not going to help you in the long run. If they had red flags and weren’t good for you before this Coronavirus, 9 times out of 10, during this Coronavirus and even after, they probably won’t change. “Bad company corrupts good morals.”-1 Corinthians 15:33 That means company through “DM’s, text messages, phone calls, social media sites, FaceTime sessions, various phone apps, and home visits.” Who you choose to dwell with and interact with in this temporary season can affect the trajectory of your life permanently. Do not let Satan get you caught up in “your feelings.” Some people can start looking real “good” when you are lonely or desperate. So, choose wisely and stay prayerful. Do not react out of your feelings alone, but allow yourself to be led by the wisdom and truth of God when ungodly temptations of closeness arise. 

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devils’s schemes.”-Ephesians 6:10-22

GUARD YOUR THOUGHTS

Depression is real. When certain difficult circumstances happen in life, it can trigger thoughts and feelings of depression. The grief of an extremely difficult experience can be overwhelming at times. It is ok to be saddened in some moments by this whole experience with the Coronavirus, however do not allow temporary moments of sadness take up permanent residence in your mind. Depression is triggered by numerous things, but one thing that it is almost ALWAYS fueled by, is improper and negative thinking. If the state of depression were a water hose, the depression would be the hose, and the water would be continual negative thinking. So, my question to you is, “How is your thinking right now?” We must “bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.”-2 Corinthians 10:5 Do not allow Satan to rob you of a thankful and grateful heart. “Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”-1 Thessalonians 5:18 Even in the midst of difficulty and adversity there is ALWAYS something beautiful and something praise worthy to thank God for. I challenge you, when depression tries to knock at your door, don’t answer it. 

“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.”- Philippians 4:8

MOMENTS OF ALONENESS DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN LONELINESS

I want you to know that during this time of aloneness you do not have to be lonely. With God you are never alone. He loves you and so many others do as well. People are praying and rooting for you that you may not have any idea about. God’s provision is ever present. I’m not just talking about financial and physical provision, but God’s mental, emotional, spiritual, and psychological provision is present for you in today. Social distancing can never erase the connection of the SPIRIT of God. “The mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.”-Romans 8:6 Stay encouraged during this temporary season of social distancing. Continue pouring into God and stay productive IN HIM. Continue feeding and cultivating those healthy and god ordained relationships in your life in creative ways while respecting and honoring social distancing during this time. Lastly but most importantly, constantly stay at the feet of Jesus. He will meet you exactly where you are. 

“For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence , so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”-Hebrews 4:15-16
